A recent addition to the Fincas Mierisch family. Santa Lucia was purchased two years after her sister farm, Cerro Azul, in 2014. Santa Lucia used to belong to Fernando Montes (first manager of IHCAFE) and he wanted to set it up as a model farm. However, the coffee was close to abandoned when we purchased the farm. The wet mill was abandoned as well but had the minimal machinery in order to function. Despite this, we still saw potential. Fortunately, it already had the necessary infrastructure for coffee cultivation: shade trees and wind breakers. We purchased our Gesha seeds from Francisco Serracin of Don Pachi Estate in Panama. Don Francisco’s father is actually credited with being the first producer to introduce Gesha into Panama from Costa Rica. We first planted this Gesha in our farms in Nicaragua, and then decided to plant it in Honduras in 2014. Earning the top spot in Cup of Excellence Honduras 2019 and 2021. Santa Lucia is home to our African beds, some of our patios, and our wet mill for all three of our farms in Honduras, which include Cerro Azul and La Alita.
Santa Lucia only has two plots with Gesha growing on it: Casona and Triangulo. Santa Lucia Gesha was blended with Yellow Pacamara from the same farm, to earn 2nd place in COE 2022.
