The SL-28 varietal in El Salvador, this is its story: Around the decades of 1950 and 1960 a few seeds of this varietal were brought back from Africa to the Palo de Campana Micro Region on the slopes of the Santa Ana volcano, and local coffee farmers began planting the varietal because plants produced a larger cherry than the traditional Red Bourbon that everybody had.
At La Divina Coffee Farm we planted a small seed-producing plot in 2015. And only after these plants became mature enough to produce high-fertility seeds we continued in 2019 planting some portions of land with the seeds we produced. At the moment we have ended up having 12 Hectares under this varietal. We have learned Geisha is a coffee varietal that requires specific soil, climate, and specifically rainfall amounts to reach its quality potential.
