Ziwa Farm is a family-owned coffee farm in the highlands of Nyeri, Kenya, founded in 2019 by Esther Kariuki as a sanctuary for her daughter Shantelle, who was born with Down syndrome. More than just a coffee farm, it’s a place of purpose—proving that disability can lead to empowerment and community.
Located at 1,900m in Ruthagati, Ziwa grows 5,500 SL28, Batian, and Ruiru 11 coffee trees, intercropped with macadamia and indigenous trees to enhance biodiversity. With 25 beehives, rich volcanic soil, and ideal rainfall, the farm produces high-quality cherries.
Ziwa uses sustainable farming methods—organic fertilization, manual weeding, and selective handpicking from October to December. Beans are processed using both washed and natural methods and dried slowly on raised beds under the sun.
The farm also supports community development, trains other farmers, works with local schools, and promotes women’s employment. With full traceability, Ziwa offers exceptional coffee with a story of resilience, inclusion, and impact.
