Kiamwangi Wetmill, part of the Iriaini Farmers Cooperative Society in Nyeri, Kenya, supports 1,150 smallholder farmers growing coffee on Mt. Kenya’s volcanic soil. Located at 1,700–1,900m elevation, the cool climate promotes slow cherry maturation and flavor development. Farmers cultivate SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11, and Batian varieties, using intercropping and sustainable practices. During natural processing, only ripe cherries are handpicked, dried on raised beds, and regularly turned to enhance sweetness and preserve natural sugars.
